On This Day, January 18, 2016\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n

Glenn Frey<\/strong>,\u00a0Eagles<\/strong>\u00a0guitarist, vocalist and co-founder, died\u00a0in New York City at the age of 67 due to\u00a0complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.<\/p>\n

The previous November, Eagles\u00a0postponed\u00a0their\u00a0Kennedy Center Honors tribute\u00a0because\u00a0Frey needed intestinal surgery, but he never had it due to complications from pneumonia and was placed in a medically induced coma. Following his death, Frey’s\u00a0wife sued the hospital and\u00a0his gastroenterologist for wrongful death.<\/p>\n

Co-founded in 1971 by Frey, singer\/drummer\u00a0Don Henley<\/strong>, guitarist\u00a0Bernie Leadon\u00a0<\/strong>and bassist\u00a0Randy Meisner<\/strong>, the Eagles went on to become one of the bestselling music acts of its era and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.\u00a0Frey was best known for singing lead vocals on such Eagles songs as \u201cTake It Easy,\u201d \u201cTequila Sunrise,\u201d \u201cAlready Gone,\u201d \u201cHeartache Tonight,\u201d \u201cNew Kid in Town,\u201d \u201cLyin\u2019 Eyes\u201d and more.<\/p>\n

He also had a successful solo career, with his biggest hit being the #2 charting \u201cThe Heat Is On\u201d from the movie\u00a0Beverly Hills Cop<\/em>. Other solo hits include \u201cSmuggler’s Blues\u201d and \u201cYou Belong to the City.\u201d<\/p>\n
