Her appearance inspired her to write the tune \u201cCandles in the Rain,\u201d which she released in 1970 and became her first U.S. hit, peaking at #6 on the\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>\u00a0charts.\u00a0She released \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lKcpodt0YCU\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Brand New Key<\/a>\u201d in 1971; it went on to be her biggest hit, reaching #1 in the U.S., Canada and Australia, and #4 in the U.K.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Safka&#8217;s other known tracks include a cover of\u00a0<strong>The Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u2019 \u201cRuby Tuesday,\u201d \u201cPeace Will Come,\u201d \u201cWhat Have They Done To My Song Ma\u201d and \u201cThe Nickel Song.\u201d She was also a well-known songwriter, writing tunes for such artists as\u00a0<strong>Ray Charles<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Cissy Houston<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mott The Hoople<\/strong>\u00a0and others.<\/p>\n<p>And there is apparently more music from Safka to come. Before her death she recorded a cover of\u00a0<strong>Morrissey<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cOuija Board Ouija Board\u201d for a planned tribute album.
