On a recent episode of\u00a0Finding Your Roots<\/em>\u00a0with\u00a0Henry Louis Gates Jr.<\/strong>,\u00a0Sammy Hagar<\/strong>\u00a0learned that\u00a0DNA testing proved his biological last name was actually Belcher and not Hagar, and he wants his fans to know that he’s not thrown by the revelation.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>Hey, everybody. Red rocker Sammy Hagar here. Also known as Mr. Belcher lately. Don’t freak out about this. This is no big deal,\u201d Hagar shares in a\u00a0post on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThis is actually pretty cool, cause at least I know a little bit about my past.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cThere’s nothing in a name. You know. You are who you are. And, maybe what you call yourself is even more important than what you’re really named.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noting that a lot of people, like\u00a0Sting<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Madonna<\/strong>, have\u00a0chosen<\/em>\u00a0to change their names, he insists he\u2019s \u201call cool” with the new discovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyways, real cool show. I was honored to be on there and I learned a lot of things I didn’t know,\u201d he continues. \u201cI didn’t know anything about my ancestry. So now I do.” He notes, “If there’s any Belchers out there that are really relatives. Well. Hey. Welcome. Hi. See you on tour.\u201d<\/p>\n
