Now, they&#8217;re both getting another prestigious award.<\/p>\n<p>On March 20, the duo will receive the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.loc.gov\/news\/elton-john-and-bernie-taupin-to-receive-the-library-of-congress-gershwin-prize-for-popular-song\/s\/f07bd6d1-0e75-4577-912b-53201ee9e80b\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Library of Congress\u2019 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song<\/a>\u00a0in Washington, D.C.,\u00a0 as part of an all-star concert, which will premiere April 8 on PBS. The Gershwin Prize, established in 2007, recognizes artists &#8220;whose career reflects the influence, impact and achievement in promoting song as a vehicle of musical expression and cultural understanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Elton and Bernie will be the third duo to receive the award, following\u00a0<strong>Burt Bacharach<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Hal David<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Gloria<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Emilio Estefan<\/strong>. Past recipients include\u00a0<strong>Stevie Wonder<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Paul McCartney<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Joni Mitchell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lionel Richie<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Carole King<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been writing songs with Bernie for 56 years, and we never thought that that one day this might be bestowed upon us,\u201d Elton said in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s an incredible honor for two British guys to be recognized like this. I\u2019m so honored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bernie added, \u201cTo be in a house along with the great American songwriters, to even be in the same avenue, is humbling, and I am absolutely thrilled to accept.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Librarian of Congress\u00a0<strong>Carla Hayden<\/strong>\u00a0said, &#8220;Elton John and Bernie Taupin have written some of the most memorable songs of our lives.
