{"id":28649,"date":"2024-02-02T12:03:11","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T12:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/artimus-pyle-celebrates-ronnie-van-zant-on-new-album-anthems-honoring-the-music-of-lynyrd-skynyrd\/"},"modified":"2024-02-02T12:03:11","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T12:03:11","slug":"artimus-pyle-celebrates-ronnie-van-zant-on-new-album-anthems-honoring-the-music-of-lynyrd-skynyrd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/artimus-pyle-celebrates-ronnie-van-zant-on-new-album-anthems-honoring-the-music-of-lynyrd-skynyrd\/","title":{"rendered":"Artimus Pyle celebrates Ronnie Van Zant on new album, &#8216;Anthems &#8211; Honoring the Music Of Lynyrd Skynyrd&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-02-01\/M_ArtimusPYleAnthems_092723 (1).jpg\" alt=\"\"><figcaption>BFD\/Orchard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Former\u00a0<strong>Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/strong>\u00a0drummer\u00a0<strong>Artimus Pyle<\/strong>\u00a0is out with a new album,\u00a0<em>Anthems &#8211; Honoring The Music Of Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/em>, and he tells ABC Audio there was a clear reason why he wanted to make it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Ronnie Van Zant<\/strong>\u00a0and his band deserve it,\u201d he says, referring to Skynyrd\u2019s former frontman, who died in the 1977 plane crash that also killed guitarist\u00a0<strong>Steve Gaines<\/strong>\u00a0and backup singer\u00a0<strong>Cassie Gaines<\/strong>, and injured<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Pyle and the rest of the band.<\/p>\n<p>The album features guest stars including\u00a0<strong>Dolly Parton<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sammy Hagar<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Gov\u2019t Mule<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Warren Haynes<\/strong>\u00a0putting their spin on Skynyrd classics, but Artimus notes they also wanted to pay tribute to Ronnie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can hear it in their performances that they&#8217;re putting their hearts into these performances because they&#8217;re singing for Ronnie,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p>Artimus says Dolly was the first to sign on for the album and that after hearing her take on the classic \u201cFreebird,\u201d he \u201ccried like a baby.&#8221; The song was also an emotional one for Artimus because he was able to get his Skynyrd bandmate\u00a0<strong>Gary Rossington<\/strong>\u00a0to play on it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis album meant so much to me because it was a vehicle that brought Gary and I back together,\u201d he says of Rossington, who passed away in March, leaving Pyle as the final living member of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And while some people may think\u00a0he is trying to profit off the Skynyrd legacy,\u00a0Pyle insists that\u2019s not the case.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn&#8217;t do it to make a bunch of money,\u201d he says. \u201cThe people that will benefit from these songs are the children and grandchildren of my friends that are up in rock and roll heaven.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
