The Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 4, featured some standout performances, but if producers had their way there would have been another huge act in the lineup.<\/p>\n

In an interview with\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em>, Grammy executive producer\u00a0Ben Winston<\/strong>\u00a0reveals that while\u00a0Dua Lipa<\/strong>\u00a0opened the show, they initially wanted\u00a0The Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u00a0to kick off the festivities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was either going to be The Rolling Stones doing \u2018Angry\u2019 or Dua Lipa,\u201d he says. \u201cThat\u2019s what I was thinking. I tried \u2014 I had a conversation with the Stones. It didn\u2019t work out this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Stones’ \u201cAngry,\u201d from their recent album\u00a0Hackney Diamonds<\/em>, was nominated for Best Rock Song, but wound up losing to\u00a0boygenius<\/strong>‘ “Not Strong Enough.”<\/p>\n

As for one of the other iconic moments in the show,\u00a0Joni Mitchell<\/strong>‘s performance of “Both Sides Now,” Winston says\u00a0it was almost a year in the making.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrandi Carlile<\/strong>\u00a0said to me, about six months before the last Grammys, \u2018Joni\u2019s performing again a little bit; she\u2019s gonna do a few festivals with me. Do you think maybe we could get her to sing at the Grammys?\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Wow, that would be amazing.’\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nothing really came of it until he saw Joni perform at the Hollywood Bowl in October and decided he needed to make it happen. And in the end, Winston says Joni had a great experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe enjoyed the adulation she got,\u201d he says. \u201cShe sat there on this throne in her dressing room. People came to greet her \u2014\u00a0Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong>\u00a0came and paid her respects.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to her performance, Joni won a Grammy for Best Folk\u00a0Album for\u00a0Joni Mitchell at Newport Live.\u00a0<\/em>It was her 11th Grammy win.<\/p>\n
