Dire Straits<\/strong>\u00a0frontman\u00a0Mark Knopfler<\/strong>\u00a0has enlisted an A-list lineup of musicians for a new charity single benefiting Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The tune, \u201cGoing Home (Theme From Local Hero),\u201d features over 60 guest artists, including\u00a0the late\u00a0Jeff Beck<\/strong>\u00a0in his final recording before his January 2023 death.<\/p>\n

Other\u00a0guitarists on the song include\u00a0The Who<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Pete Townshend<\/strong>,\u00a0Bruce Springsteen<\/strong>,\u00a0Eric Clapton<\/strong>,\u00a0Peter Frampton<\/strong>,\u00a0Queen<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Brian May<\/strong>,\u00a0Rush<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Alex Lifeson<\/strong>,\u00a0Joan Jett<\/strong>,\u00a0Black Sabbath<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Tony Iommi<\/strong>,\u00a0Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>\u2019\u00a0Slash<\/strong>,\u00a0Eagles<\/strong>\u2019\u00a0Joe Walsh<\/strong>,\u00a0Pink Floyd<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0David Gilmour<\/strong>,\u00a0Rage Against the Machine<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Tom Morello<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0The Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u2019\u00a0Ronnie Wood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Also\u00a0featured on\u00a0the track is The Who\u2019s\u00a0Roger Daltrey<\/strong>\u00a0on harmonica,\u00a0Ringo Starr<\/strong>\u00a0and son\u00a0Zak Starkey<\/strong>\u00a0on drums and\u00a0Sting<\/strong>\u00a0on bass<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I really want to do, more than anything else, is just to thank each and every one for this sterling response. I really had no idea that it was going to be like this,\u201d Knopfler said, adding, \u201cI think what we\u2019ve had is an embarrassment of riches, really. The whole thing was a high point.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knopfler has shared a\u00a0short tease\u00a0<\/a>of the track\u00a0ahead of its March 15 release. It will feature cover art\u00a0designed by Sir\u00a0Peter Blake<\/strong>, known for his work on\u00a0The Beatles<\/strong>\u2019\u00a0Sgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/em>, two albums by The Who and more.<\/p>\n

“Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” is\u00a0available for preorder<\/a>\u00a0now.<\/p>\n

The song was originally featured in the 1983 film\u00a0Local Hero<\/em>, which starred\u00a0Burt Lancaster<\/strong>.\u00a0Knopfler wrote the score for the film, earning\u00a0him a BAFTA nomination. The tune, which is played before every Newcastle United soccer match, was Knopfler’s first solo single.<\/p>\n
