So all these lyrics start conjuring up ideas of a race and a chase to make this record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the decision to animate the video, McDonnell notes,\u00a0\u201cThe beauty of animation, it completely opens up your world, you know, you\u2019re not limited by anything.&#8221;\u00a0He adds, &#8220;There&#8217;s a really interesting integration between our fictional world and honoring the real story that actually happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmoke on the Water\u201d was inspired by the events that surrounded the recording of\u00a0Deep Purple&#8217;s 1972 album,\u00a0<em>Machine<\/em>\u00a0<em>Head<\/em>. In 1971 the band\u00a0planned to record at\u00a0Montreux Casino, but the venue caught fire during a concert by\u00a0<strong>Frank Zappa<\/strong>. The title is a reference to\u00a0smoke from the fire spreading\u00a0over Lake Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>Deep Purple recently released a 2024 remix of \u201cSmoke on the Water\u201d as part of a preview of their super deluxe edition of\u00a0<em>Machine Head<\/em>, which is due out March 29.
