Peter Frampton<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the artists who was been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year \u2014 his first nomination, even though he\u2019s been eligible since 1997.\u00a0And while many feel it’s been a long time coming, he tells\u00a0Vulture<\/a>\u00a0the recognition\u00a0was quite a surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout my life, I never really expected anything,\u201d he says. \u201cI know a lot of other people have expected this on my behalf, and I appreciate them, but if it wasn\u2019t going to happen, it wasn\u2019t going to happen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Frampton says he never expected a nomination \u201cbecause I\u2019m a realist,\u201d explaining, \u201cI\u2019ve had a storied career. I\u2019ve been up and down and up and down more times than a yo-yo. The Rock Hall has never been something where I\u2019ve said to myself,\u00a0I deserve this. I expect this.\u00a0<\/em>I\u2019m not that kind of a person.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cI have nothing to complain about. If you don\u2019t expect it, it\u2019s all the nicer when it happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frampton says in the past he has criticized the Rock Hall for who has been nominated and suggests\u00a0Jann Wenner<\/strong>‘s\u00a0ouster from the board should improve things. “It\u2019s for the better. Things will be more realistic,” he says.<\/p>\n

And\u00a0Frampton feels his nomination may not have happened had\u00a0Sheryl Crow\u00a0<\/strong>not invited him to perform with her at the 2023 ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll continue to thank her for stirring the pot. She was saying,\u00a0Look, this guy isn\u2019t in, what do you think about that?”\u00a0<\/em>he says. “<\/em>That was her goal, I think.”<\/p>\n

The Hall of Fame fan vote is open until April 26; fans can vote for up to seven artists daily. Inductees will be announced in April, and the 2024 induction ceremony will take place in Cleveland in the fall.<\/p>\n
