Back in September it took the\u00a0search\u00a0global, determined to find the\u00a0instrument, which has been described as \u201cthe most important bass in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCartney purchased the bass in Hamburg, Germany, in 1961 and used it to write such classics as \u201cLove Me Do\u201d and \u201cShe Loves You.\u201d Initially it was believed to have last been seen in 1969, following the filming of\u00a0<em>Get Back<\/em>, but a tip led to the discovery that\u00a0it had actually been stolen in 1972 from a truck parked in Notting Hill, West London.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday McCartney announced on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.paulmccartney.com\/news\/statement-on-hofner-bass\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">his website<\/a>\u00a0that the bass is finally back in his possession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the launch of last year&#8217;s Lost Bass project, Paul\u2019s 1961 H\u00f6fner 500\/1 bass guitar, which was stolen in 1972, has been returned,\u201d the post reads. \u201cThe guitar has been authenticated by H\u00f6fner and Paul is incredibly grateful to all those involved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely proud that we played a major part in finding the Lost Bass,\u201d The Lost Bass Project\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thelostbass.com\/the-lost-bass-found\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">shared on its site<\/a>. \u201cIt has been a dream since 2018 that it could be done.
