Van Halen<\/strong>‘s two frontmen,\u00a0Sammy Hagar<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0David Lee Roth<\/strong>, haven\u2019t been holding back in the press about their feelings\u00a0toward each other. And\u00a0while they may not be friends, that\u00a0hasn’t stopped Hagar from appreciating the music Roth made with Van Halen before he took over.<\/p>\n

Van Halen’s sixth studio album,\u00a01984,<\/em>\u00a0celebrated its 40th anniversary\u00a0in January\u00a0and Hagar has nothing but good things to say about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a huge fan of that record,\u201d\u00a0Hagar tells ABC Audio, noting it made him realize\u00a0Eddie Van Halen<\/strong>\u00a0was a “genius.”<\/p>\n

Sammy was particularly impressed by Eddie\u2019s synthesizer\u00a0work on \u201cJump,\u201d Van Halen’s only #1 single, sharing, “You know, Eddie, I just I fell in love with Eddie with that.”<\/p>\n

And Hagar\u00a0says\u00a0he was even a little jealous after the\u00a0success of “Jump,” sharing that\u00a0prior to its release he always felt he was on the same level as Van Halen.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I felt I was in competition until I heard\u00a0‘Jump’ and the song went, you know, it was such a big hit,\u201d he says. \u201cI just went, ‘Wow, they did it.’ I was mad, I was upset.\u201d He does note that he got over it once Van Halen asked him to join the band.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Roth left Van Halen after\u00a01984<\/em>\u00a0and was replaced by Hagar. They went on to have four #1 albums with him as frontman.\u00a0<\/p>\n
