On This Day, February 27, 1974\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Queen<\/strong> released their 11th studio album <\/span>The Works<\/span><\/em>, which featured such tracks as \u201cRadio Ga Ga,\u201d \u201cHammer to Fall\u201d and \u201cI Want to Break Free.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRadio Ga Ga,\u201d written by drummer Roger Taylor<\/strong>, was the first single released from the album. It went on to hit #1 in 19 countries but only went to #2 in the U.K. and #16 in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n

The video for the track \u201cI Want to Break Free\u201d caused some controversy because the band dressed in drag. Backlash in the U.S. led to the band\u2019s decision to not tour the album in North America.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Works<\/span><\/em>, which peaked at #23 in the U.S., went on to sell over 6 million copies worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n
