In fact, Elton covered Metallica\u2019s \u201cNothing Else Matters\u201d for their <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Metallica Blacklist<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"> tribute album.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Metallica isn\u2019t the only artist with a past connection to Elton and Bernie. Brandi, a well known friend of Elton, joined him onstage for \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Sun Go Down On Me\u201d at his final U.S. show at Dodger\u2019s Stadium in 2022, while Maren\u00a0covered Elton&#8217;s \u201cMona Lisas and Mad Hatters\u201d for the 2018 country compilation\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Restoration: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Garth has covered Elton songs in concert and recorded his own version of \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,&#8221; while\u00a0Jacob joined Elton onstage at the U.K.&#8217;s Glastonbury Festival in 2023; he&#8217;s also set to perform at Elton\u2019s annual Academy Awards viewing party on March 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Elton John &amp; Bernie Taupin: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"> will air Monday, April 8, at 8 p.m. on PBS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Gershwin Prize, established in 2007, recognizes artists &#8220;whose career reflects the influence, impact and achievement in promoting song as a vehicle of musical expression and cultural understanding.&#8221; Previous winners include <strong>Paul Simon<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Stevie Wonder<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Paul McCartney<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Joni Mitchell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Lionel Richie\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Carole King<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
