The Kinks<\/strong>\u2019 Dave Davies<\/strong> continues to set the record straight regarding rumors Jimmy Page<\/strong> played\u00a0guitar on the band\u2019s classic tune \u201cYou Really Got Me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As previously reported, Dave recently took issue with a <\/span>Guitar World<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a> article that suggested producer Eddie Kramer<\/strong> had confirmed a long-held rumor that Jimmy played on the song, not Dave. That prompted a strong denial from Dave, who noted <\/span>on social media<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that he had spoken to Kramer, who denied he made the comments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Well, <\/span>Guitar World<\/span><\/em> <\/span>later posted<\/strong><\/span><\/a> the audio of the Kramer interview, which seemed to back their story.\u00a0The post did note, \u201cAs per our story, we at no point suggest Page’s contributions appear on the final version of You Really Got Me we all know and love.\u201d Dave\u00a0<\/span>thanked them<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for the clarification.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Dave also <\/span>shared a message<\/strong><\/span><\/a> Kramer sent to him in which he confirmed that he remembered Dave\u2019s guitar sound on the song, noting, \u201cAs for Jimmy playing on your session, that\u2019s not clear in my memory.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

And Dave also shared a statement from his brother and Kinks bandmate\u00a0Ray<\/strong>\u00a0Davies<\/strong>, who backs\u00a0him up. <\/span>He wrote<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, \u201cThe rumor is untrue. I was standing in the room next to Dave when YRGM was recorded and J Page was nowhere to be seen.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rumors that Page appeared on the song have been circulating for years, but both Dave and Page have denied them.<\/span><\/p>\n

“You Really Got Me” hit #1 in the U.K. and was the band\u2019s breakthrough hit in the U.S., peaking at #7 on the chart. It was covered by\u00a0Van Halen\u00a0<\/strong>on their 1978 self-titled debut.<\/span><\/p>\n
