It was inspired by the events that surrounded the recording of Deep Purple&#8217;s 1972 album,\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Machine\u00a0Head<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">. In 1971 the band planned to record at Montreux Casino, but the venue caught fire during a concert by\u00a0<strong>Frank Zappa\u00a0<\/strong>when someone in the audience fired a flare gun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The title of the song is a reference to smoke from the fire spreading over Lake Geneva.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s been an honor to put visuals to this song, undeniably one of the greatest rock tracks of all time. The fact that the song is itself a story meant we had no shortage of inspiration for the scenes that accompany the music,\u201d co-directors\u00a0<strong>Dan Gibling\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Luke McDonnell<\/strong>\u00a0share. \u201cThe writing of the album was an adventure summed up in the lyrics, and we hope we have created an accompanying adventure that existing and new fans will enjoy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The new clip is for a 2024 remix of the track that will be featured on the new <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Machine Head: Super Deluxe Edition, <\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">which<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">will be released as a three-CD\/LP\/Blu-ray set on March 29. It\u00a0features new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes of the 1972 original album, courtesy of\u00a0<strong>Dweezil Zappa<\/strong>.
