U2<\/strong> wrapped their Las Vegas residency, <\/span>U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere,<\/span><\/em> this weekend with two special shows — and a couple of special guests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rumors had suggested that U2 drummer Larry Mullen, Jr.<\/strong>, who sat out the residency as he recovered from surgery, would join them for the last two shows, and he did — but as a spectator.\u00a0 Fa<\/span>n shot footage posted to YouTube\u00a0showing\u00a0Bono<\/strong> shouting out\u00a0 Larry in the audience during the March 1 show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>That is the man who pinned the note on the notice board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School all those years ago. And we are very grateful that he did and that he\u2019s here with us tonight,\u201d Bono said. \u201cWe wish him a speedy, speedy, speedy recovery. We love you, Larry Mullen Jr.” The band then launched into \u201cBeautiful Day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat an incredible night at Sphere-So Grateful to Bono Edge and Adam and of course Bram for an amazing job-very emotional night for me personally,\u201d Larry later wrote on <\/span>Instagram<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, praising Bram van den Berg,\u00a0<\/strong>who filled in for him during the residency.<\/span><\/p>\n

But\u00a0Larry wasn’t the only special guest in the house. According to <\/span>setlist.fm<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, for the final show on March 2, U2 brought out <\/span>Achtung Baby<\/span><\/em> producer Daniel Lanois<\/strong>\u00a0during their performance of \u201cOne.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

And for that 40th and final\u00a0night, U2 added a song to the final\u00a0encore that was appropriate for the occasion: \u201c40.” It was the first time they\u2019ve performed the tune during the residency and the first time they\u2019ve played it since 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

While U2 is vacating the Sphere, other acts are already booked to take their place. Phish<\/strong> will play the venue from April 18-21, followed by Dead & Company<\/strong>, who\u2019ll headline 18 shows from May 16 to June 22.<\/span><\/p>\n
