The\u00a0episode\u00a0will also feature a performance from the musical.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This version of <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Tommy<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">, directed by\u00a0the musical&#8217;s\u00a0original<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">director,\u00a0<strong>Des McAnuff<\/strong>, debuted at Chicago\u2019s Goodman Theatre in June and features a brand new staging with a cast of 28 and a nine-piece band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Based on The Who\u2019s 1969 album and 1975 film, the original production of\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Tommy\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">opened at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California, on July 1, 1992. It opened on Broadway on April 22, 1993, and closed on June 17, 1995.\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Tommy\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">won five Tony Awards, including Best Direction for McAnuff and Best Original Score for Townshend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
