The Who<\/strong>\u2019s Pete Townshend<\/strong> still\u00a0takes the stage with his bandmate Roger Daltrey<\/strong>, most recently performing at the Teenage Cancer Trust shows in London earlier this month. But even though he’s onstage playing The Who’s music, it doesn\u2019t sound like he\u2019s necessarily loving it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an interview with<\/span> <\/span><\/em>The New York Times<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a> to promote the new\u00a0reimagining of the musical <\/span>Tommy<\/span><\/em>, Townshend indicates that he\u00a0might\u00a0be ready to let go of touring as the band, noting that his wallet is the only reason he keeps doing it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels to me like there\u2019s one thing the Who can do, and that\u2019s a final tour where we play every territory in the world and then crawl off to die,\u201d he says. \u201cI don\u2019t get much of a buzz from performing with The Who. If I\u2019m really honest, I\u2019ve been touring for the money.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Besides, Pete\u00a0doesn’t really consider performing\u00a0with Roger\u00a0the same as performing\u00a0with The Who.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Who isn\u2019t Daltrey and Townshend onstage at 80, pretending to be young. It\u2019s the four of us in 1964, when we were 18 or 19,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

He does\u00a0offer a hint about\u00a0what might be in store for The Who in the future, sharing, \u201cIf you want to see the Who myth, wait for the avatar show. It would be good!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Who’s<\/span><\/em> <\/span>Tommy<\/span><\/em> opens March 28 at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City. More information on tickets can be found at <\/span>tommythemusical.com<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
