Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band<\/strong> are set to\u00a0play the Sea.Hear.Now festival in their old stomping grounds of Asbury Park, New Jersey, on September 15 and the festival\u2019s creator, photographer Danny Clinch<\/strong>, is opening up to <\/span>Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0about how it happened.<\/span><\/p>\n

Springsteen made a surprise appearance at the festival in the past, but Clinch, who’s photographed\u00a0the rocker several times, says he set his sights on trying to get\u00a0The Boss to headline this year after realizing\u00a0Bruce’s current tour\u00a0ended on\u00a0the East Coast right before the festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re like, \u2018Oh man, this looks like a good opportunity to hit him up,\u2019\u201d Clinch shares. \u201cAnd I happen to be over [at] his place. And I said, \u2018Man, I was looking at your schedule, and we would love to have you at our Sea.Hear.Now show,\u2019 and he\u2019s like, \u2018Yeah, that\u2019d be cool.\u2019”<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinch adds, \u201cThen later I was back in the studio, and he just turned to me at one point and he was like, \u2018I\u2019m gonna do the thing on the beach. I\u2019m going to Sea.Hear.Now. I want to bring the band on the beach. This could be incredible.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

With fellow New Jersey natives Trey Anastasio<\/strong> and The Gaslight Anthem<\/strong> playing just\u00a0ahead of Bruce, Clinch is certainly hoping\u00a0fans will get to see\u00a0some fun collaborations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I mean, it\u2019s happened before. It is kind of a family block party in a sense right now, because Trey is from Princeton,\u201d Clinch says. \u201cHe\u2019s just like, \u2018You gotta be kidding me. This is amazing.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinch adds, \u201cAnd you know, Gaslight into Bruce \u2014 it\u2019s insane. It\u2019s a New Jersey dream right there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
