Billy Idol<\/strong> <\/span>recently released<\/strong><\/span><\/a> his take on the Rose Royce<\/strong> classic \u201cLove Don\u2019t Live Here Anymore,\u201d which will be featured on the upcoming 40th anniversary deluxe edition of <\/span>Rebel Yell<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Idol and his guitarist Steve Stevens<\/strong> recorded the cover while\u00a0making the rest of the album. They\u00a0discuss the decision to record the track\u00a0in an <\/span>animated video <\/strong><\/span><\/a>for the UDiscover\u2019s <\/span>Beyond the Bus<\/span><\/em> series.<\/span><\/p>\n

Idol says the idea came to him while they were making the album at Electric Lady studios in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI always look for a song I could cover that people aren\u2019t expecting,\u201d he says, noting \u201cLove Don\u2019t Live Here Anymore” \u201cwas one of those songs, I don\u2019t know why, I thought I could take it and do something with it dramatically different and make it my own.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It never made the album, though, because\u00a0while they were working on\u00a0the song, someone from\u00a0Idol’s record company informed\u00a0them\u00a0Madonna<\/strong> had just recorded her own cover of the tune.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNothing sobers you up like having Madonna steal one of your babies,\u201d Stevens says, with Idol adding, \u201cso yeah, we decided to put it on the shelf, unfortunately.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When they started putting together the 40th anniversary edition of <\/span>Rebel Yell<\/span><\/em>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>they decided to revisit the cover,\u00a0and Stevens added a bit of guitar to what was already recorded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Idol\u00a0shares that while Madonna\u2019s cover is pretty faithful to the original, \u201cI took it and made it into a rock song and I started to really scream the chorus.” He adds, \u201cIt came out fantastic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Rebel Yell\u00a0<\/span><\/em>deluxe expanded edition will be released April 26. It is\u00a0<\/span>available for preorder<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0now.<\/span><\/p>\n
