On This Day, March 28, 2005\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

U2<\/strong> kicked off their Vertigo tour at the iPayOne Center in San Diego, California.<\/span><\/p>\n

The North American portion of the tour consisted of two legs. The first\u00a0was made up of 28 sold-out arena shows, wrapping May 28 in Boston, and the second, consisting of 50 sold-out shows, launched September 12 in Toronto and wrapped December 19 in Portland.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The band performed on an ellipse-shaped stage surrounded\u00a0with fans on\u00a0both the inside and outside.\u00a0The stage also featured see-through LED lighting that hung behind and to the side of the stage.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tour followed the release of\u00a0U2’s 2004 album,\u00a0<\/span>How To Dismantle and Atomic Bomb<\/span><\/em>, with the set list\u00a0including album cuts \u201cVertigo,\u201d \u201cSometimes You Can\u2019t Make It On Your Own\u201d and \u201cCity of Blinding Lights,” and classic tunes like \u201cI Still Haven\u2019t Found What I\u2019m Looking For,\u201d \u201cOne,\u201d \u201cMysterious Ways\u201d and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tour wound up being the top earning tour of 2005, grossing $260 million.<\/span><\/p>\n
