John was more familiar with the banjo chords, since he was taught to play guitar by his mom, who only knew how to play banjo. But\u00a0during an early show at Conservative Club in Liverpool McCartney realized he wasn\u2019t the right person to play guitar in the band.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe had this gig and it was like, the first thing I ever played, and I was lead guitar player. John was rhythm,\u201d he shared. \u201cAnd I had a solo and I totally froze. Could not move my fingers. &#8230; It was, like, just so embarrassing.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He added, \u201cMy lead-guitar-playing career melted at that moment and I said, \u2018Well, I\u2019m not doing this again. I\u2019m not cut out for this. I\u2019m no good.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It all seemed to work out, though. With\u00a0McCartney\u00a0on the bass,\u00a0<strong>George Harrison<\/strong> on lead guitar, Lennon on rhythm guitar and <strong>Ringo Starr<\/strong> on drums, <strong>The Beatles<\/strong> went on to be one of the biggest bands in the history of music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
