{"id":29310,"date":"2024-04-18T21:04:48","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T21:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/allman-brothers-band-pays-tribute-to-co-founder-dickey-betts\/"},"modified":"2024-04-18T21:04:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T21:04:48","slug":"allman-brothers-band-pays-tribute-to-co-founder-dickey-betts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/allman-brothers-band-pays-tribute-to-co-founder-dickey-betts\/","title":{"rendered":"Allman Brothers Band pays tribute to co-founder Dickey Betts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-04-18\/Getty_DickeyBettsOld_041824.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Rick Diamond\/Getty Images for Webster PR<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Allman Brothers Band<\/strong> has paid tribute to founding member <strong>Dickey Betts<\/strong>, who passed away Thursday at the age of 80.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWith deep sadness the Allman Brothers Band learned today that founding member Dickey Betts has passed away peacefully in his home in Sarasota, Florida, following a period of declining health,\u201d reads a statement signed by Allman Brothers Band, Family, and Crew.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cDickey wrote quintessential Brothers songs including &#8216;Blue Sky,&#8217; &#8216;Rambling Man,&#8217; &#8216;Jessica,&#8217; &#8216;In Memory of Elizabeth Reed&#8217; and many others,\u201d it continues. \u201cHis extraordinary guitar playing alongside guitarist <strong>Duane Allman<\/strong> created a unique dual guitar signature sound that became the signature sound of the genre known as Southern Rock.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The statement goes on to mention the many things Dickey was passionate about, including music, songwriting, fishing and boating, noting, \u201cDickey was all in on and excelled at anything that caught his attention.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">With drummer <strong>Jaimoe<\/strong>\u00a0now the last surviving founding member of the group, the statement remembers all of the other members of the band and crew who are now gone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Betts joins his brothers, Duane Allman, <strong>Berry Oakley<\/strong>, <strong>Butch Trucks<\/strong> and <strong>Gregg Allman<\/strong>, as well as ABB crew, members <strong>Twiggs Lyndon<\/strong>, <strong>Joe Dan Petty<\/strong>, <strong>Red Dog<\/strong>, <strong>Kim Payne <\/strong>and <strong>Mike Callahan<\/strong> in that old Winnebago in the sky touring the world taking their music to all who will listen,\u201d it reads. \u201cPlay on Brother Dickey, you will be forever remembered and deeply missed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
