Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and punk poet\u00a0Patti Smith\u00a0<\/strong>is name-checked in the title track to Taylor Swift<\/strong>\u2019s new album,\u00a0<\/span>The Tortured Poets Department, <\/span><\/em>and Smith has shared her gratitude for the recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor sings in the track, “I laughed in your face and said ‘You’re not\u00a0Dylan Thomas<\/strong>, I’m not Patti Smith\/ This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel, we’r\u0435 modern idiots.'”<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thomas, a Welsh poet, died at New York’s Chelsea Hotel in 1953. Smith lived in the same hotel in 1969.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0mention prompted Smith\u00a0<\/span>to post a photo<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0of herself reading Thomas’\u00a0<\/span>Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog<\/span><\/em>. She wrote, “This is saying I was moved to be mentioned in the company of the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Thank you Taylor.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Patti’s\u00a0latest book,\u00a0<\/span>A Book of Days<\/span><\/em>, recently\u00a0<\/span>came out in paperback<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. It features 365 photos covering a single year of her life.<\/span><\/p>\n
