Mike Pinder<\/strong>, keyboardist, vocalist and founding member of the Moody Blues<\/strong>, passed away Wednesday, April 24 at the age of 82. The news was confirmed in a statement from his family, which was shared on <\/span>Facebook<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by his Moody Blues bandmate John Lodge<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMichael’s family would like to share with his trusted friends and caring fans that he passed peacefully,\u201d read the statement. \u201cHis final days were filled with music, encircled by the love of his family. Michael lived his life with a childlike wonder, walking a deeply introspective path which fused the mind and the heart.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe created his music and the message he shared with the world from this spiritually grounded place,” the statement continued. \u201cHis authentic essence lifted up everyone who came into contact with him. His lyrics, philosophy, and vision of humanity and our place in the cosmos will touch generations to come.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pinder was remembered by his Moody Blues bandmate\u00a0Justin Hayward\u00a0<\/strong>as \u201ca natural born musician who could play any style of music with warmth and love.\u201d He added, \u201cHe was a huge part of my own musical journey. My sincere condolences to his loving and devoted family.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Moody Blues were formed in\u00a0May\u00a01964\u00a0by Pinder and multi-instrumentalist\/vocalist Ray Thomas<\/strong>, who\u00a0recruited\u00a0guitarist\/vocalist Denny Laine,<\/strong>\u00a0drummer Graeme Edge<\/strong> and Clint Warwick<\/strong>. Guitarist\/vocalist Hayward\u00a0<\/strong>and bassist\/vocalist\u00a0<\/strong>Lodge\u00a0<\/strong>joined the band after Laine and Warwick\u2019s departure in 1966.\u00a0Pinder was the last surviving original member of the band.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moody Blues were influential in the development of progressive rock, with their sophomore album <\/span>Days of Future Passed<\/span><\/em> considered by some to be the first real example of the genre. It contained the classic hit \u201cNights in White Satin,\u201d which was initially released in 1967, but peaked at #2 in the U.S. when it was reissued in 1972.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n
