Benett\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Guitar legend <strong>Duane Eddy<\/strong> passed away Tuesday\u00a0in Franklin, Tennessee, at the age of 86, his manager confirmed to ABC Audio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;Duane inspired a generation of guitarists the world over with his unmistakable signature \u2018Twang\u2019 sound,\u201d read the statement from his rep. \u201cHe was the first rock and roll guitar god, a truly humble and incredible human being. He will be sorely missed.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Eddy had 15 top-40 singles throughout the late &#8217;50s and early &#8217;60s, with his breakthrough being the 1958 instrumental track \u201cRevel Rouser,\u201d which peaked at #6 on the <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Billboard<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"> Hot 100 and became his first Gold record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Eddy had another hit with \u201cPeter Gunn,\u201d the <strong>Henry Mancini<\/strong>-composed instrumental for the TV series of the same name. It gained renewed popularity in the \u201880s when Eddy rerecorded it with <strong>Art of Noise<\/strong>, resulting in a top-10 hit for the guitarist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Other hits include \u201cCannonball,\u201d \u201cMovin \u2018n Groovin\u201d and \u201cBecause They\u2019re Young,\u201d with Eddy <\/span><span class=\"s2\">selling more than 100 million records worldwide.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Eddy,\u00a0whose music influenced\u00a0artists like\u00a0<strong>George Harrison\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Bruce Springsteen<\/strong>, was inducted into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
