Model\/actress\/artist Anita Pallenberg<\/strong> is mostly known for her association with The Rolling Stones<\/strong>, but a new documentary, <\/span>Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, seeks to remind the world she was more than just the former girlfriend of Brian Jones<\/strong> and Keith Richards<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pallenberg\u2019s influence on the band was huge. The film\u2019s co-director Alexis Bloom<\/strong> tells ABC Audio Pallenberg was a \u201cgreat connector” for the group, introducing\u00a0them to art, artists,\u00a0books and more.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, they literally wore her clothes,\u201d co-director Svetlana Zill<\/strong> adds. \u201cShe brought this sort of cultural influence into the mix that they had not really previously been aware of before.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The two directors got involved in the project\u00a0after\u00a0Marlon Richards<\/strong>, Pallenberg\u2019s son with Keith, brought them his mother\u2019s unpublished memoir, as well as hours of old film footage. He and his sister Angela<\/strong>\u00a0appear in the film, which the directors acknowledge wasn\u2019t easy for either of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would be hard for anyone to go back and talk about their childhood,\u201d Zill says. \u201cBut they were very open and willing to, which was incredible, the kind of trust that they had to let us go there.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Keith, who Pallenberg was with from 1967 to 1979, is also interviewed for the film, and Bloom says she initially wondered if\u00a0the rocker\u00a0would be comfortable enough to open up his relationship with Anita. She noting she was \u201csurprised how tenderly he spoke\u201d about her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very moving because it\u00a0was palpable the way that he spoke about her,”\u00a0Zill adds. “I don’t think it was easy for him to go back and talk about her.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg<\/span><\/em> opens in theaters and\u00a0is available on demand on May 3.<\/span><\/p>\n
