{"id":29446,"date":"2024-05-06T18:04:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T18:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/on-this-day-may-6-1973-paul-simon-launched-his-first-solo-tour\/"},"modified":"2024-05-06T18:04:05","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T18:04:05","slug":"on-this-day-may-6-1973-paul-simon-launched-his-first-solo-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/on-this-day-may-6-1973-paul-simon-launched-his-first-solo-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"On This Day, May 6, 1973: Paul Simon launched his first solo tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-05-06\/ABCAudio_ThisDayInHistory_v03_ag.jpg\" alt><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On This Day, May 6, 1973\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After parting ways with his musical partner <strong>Art Garfunkel<\/strong> three years earlier, <strong>Paul Simon<\/strong> launched his first ever solo tour in Boston, Massachusetts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The tour launched a few weeks before the release of Simon\u2019s third solo album, <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">There Goes Rhymin&#8217;<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">, which featured such songs as \u201cKodachrome\u201d and &#8220;Loves Me Like a Rock,&#8221; which peaked at #2 on the <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Billboard<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"> Hot 100.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The following year in March, 1974, <\/span><em><span class=\"s1\">Paul Simon in Concert: Live Rhymin&#8217;<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\">, a live album recorded during the tour, was released, featuring Simon performing his solo material, as well as <strong>Simon &amp; Garfunkel<\/strong> classics solo for the first time, including such songs as\u00a0 \u201cHomeward Bound,\u201d \u201cThe Boxer,\u201d \u201cAmerica,\u201d \u201cThe Sound of Silence\u201d and \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Simon went on to have a successful solo career, and in 2018 announced he was retiring from touring after one more tour, which wrapped near where he grew up in Queens, New York, on September 22, 2018.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He wound up returning to the stage in August 2019 for a performance at San Francisco\u2019s Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
