As Lenny Kravitz<\/strong>\u00a0gets ready to release his new album,\u00a0<\/span>Blue Electric Light<\/span><\/em>, he’s\u00a0looking back at his career with <\/span>Vulture<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the interview, Kravitz\u00a0credits his debut single, “<\/span>Let Love Rule<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,”\u00a0as the tune where he truly found his voice for the first time, sharing that the inspiration for the track came from an unlikely place.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c’Let Love Rule’ came toward the end of that album. It was something that came to me when I was living in Soho,\u201d he shares. \u201cI\u2019d written \u2018Let Love Rule\u2019 on the wall, next to the elevator, so that people would see it coming and going from the apartment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He says that while he would constantly see the words, it took a while before they would inspire him to write the track.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThen one day I walked in the apartment, looked at it again, went and picked up a guitar, and it just came,\u201d he says. \u201cI thought it was just a nice phrase. \u201c<\/span><\/p>\n

As for finding his voice, Kravitz notes, \u201cWhen I did that song, it was the beginning of me accepting my voice. That was the first time I had heard myself and went, ‘Okay, that\u2019s me.'”<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to <\/span>Blue Electric Light<\/span><\/em>, due out May 24, Lenny\u00a0chose it as\u00a0the album that’s his \u201cbiggest creative rejuvenation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted fresh energy, new energy, and youthful energy, because youth isn\u2019t only an age,\u201d Kravitz, who turns 60 on May 26, shares. \u201cYouth is also a feeling and a place to be. I\u2019ve never been older than I am today, sure, but I\u2019ve never felt younger than I feel today, which is an interesting place to be.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
