Wang Chung<\/strong>‘s 1985 song \u201cTo Live and Die in L.A.\u201d was used as the <\/span>theme song<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for John Mulaney<\/strong>\u2019s recent Netflix talk show <\/span>Everybody\u2019s in LA<\/span><\/em>, and it turns out they had no idea it was gonna happen.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a total surprise that it\u2019s blown up in the way that it has,\u201d Wang Chung lead singer Jack Hues<\/strong>\u00a0tells <\/span>Variety<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, noting he found out the song was being used for the six-episode show from \u201cthe guy who does our merch.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so nice to see it get used in such a cool way,\u201d guitarist Nick Feldman<\/strong> adds. \u201cThe way it\u2019s placed into the show \u2014 which I\u2019ve watched a couple of episodes and I really liked \u2014 it really works well.” He notes,\u00a0\u201cThat collage of images from Los Angeles, with our music it feels like they placed it exactly right. It\u2019s extremely gratifying for us to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Wang Chung\u00a0is\u00a0scheduled to play Los Angeles in August, and they tell <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/em> they hope to hook up with Mulaney in some way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to reach out to him and set something up. I\u2019d like to have a conversation with John. At least just to thank him,” Hues says, adding, “It\u2019s been great for us. And it clearly kind of put a stamp on his show that gives it something strong.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mulaney is giving the band props for their song on <\/span>social media<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,\u00a0responding to\u00a0the <\/span>Variety <\/span><\/em>interview with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>the comment, “There was no second choice for theme song. Thanks <\/span>@WangChungMusic<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for the whole vibe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
