Paul McCartney & Wings\u00a0<\/strong>hit number one on the\u00a0<\/span>Billboard\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Hot 100 singles chart with \u201cSilly Love Songs,\u201d which spent five weeks on top of the chart.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tune, from the 1976 album\u00a0<\/span>Wings at the Speed of Sound<\/span><\/em>, was McCartney\u2019s answer to critics who suggested he only wrote lightweight love songs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSilly Love Songs\u201d was McCartney\u2019s fifth number one as a solo artist and his 27th number one as a songwriter, which was a new record. McCartney still holds the record for the most number ones by a songwriter with 32.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the <\/span>Beatles Bible<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, although McCartney continues to tour to this day,\u00a0he hasn\u2019t played “Silly Love Songs” live since the Wings Over the World Tour in 1976.<\/span><\/p>\n
