Bruce Springsteen<\/strong> was\u00a0celebrated in London on Thursday, being honored as\u00a0an\u00a0Academy Fellow of The Ivors Academy. He’s the first\u00a0international songwriter\u00a0to receive the honor by the U.K. organization, which presents The Ivor Novello Awards,\u00a0celebrating excellence in British and Irish songwriting.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to <\/span>The Standard<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, The<\/strong> Beatles<\/strong>‘ Paul McCartney<\/strong> was on hand to\u00a0present\u00a0Springsteen with his honor, calling\u00a0The Boss a \u201clovely, lovely boy\u201d and a friend.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a fantastic guy and he showed up for me at Glastonbury,\u201d McCartney added. \u201cHe\u2019s known (as the) American working man, but he\u2019s never worked a day in his life.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

During his speech, Bruce recalled his\u00a0early\u00a0shows in the U.K.\u00a0in 1975 and the difficulty he had finding something to eat, noting it was “a little disconcerting” that he couldn’t find a cheeseburger.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that if London wasn’t ready for burgers,\u00a0it wasn’t “ready” for him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Springsteen is now the 27th Ivors Fellow. Other artists who have received the honor include Sting<\/strong>, McCartney,\u00a0 Kate Bush<\/strong>,\u00a0Elton John\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Peter Gabriel<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also honored at the Ivors was Elton’s\u00a0songwriting partner Bernie Taupin<\/strong>, who received the award for outstanding contribution to British music.<\/span><\/p>\n

Springsteen was able to attend the ceremony because he had a couple days off from his tour with the E Street<\/strong> Band<\/strong>. Next up they play Marseille, France, on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n
