John Lennon<\/strong>\u2019s long-lost Framus 12-string Hootenanny acoustic guitar is up for grabs at Julien’s Auctions\u2019 upcoming Music Icons auction, and it\u2019s certainly an iconic piece of music history.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s incredible,\u201d Julien’s Auctions Executive Director Martin Nolan<\/strong> tells ABC Audio. \u201cPresumed lost for 50 years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The guitar, purchased in 1964, was passed from Lennon to Gordon Waller<\/strong> of Peter and Gordon <\/strong>in late 1965; Waller\u00a0then gave it to their road manager. It was only recently discovered in the 90-year-old road manager\u2019s attic.<\/span><\/p>\n

The guitar is an important part of The Beatles history, having been\u00a0played on songs like \u201cYou\u2019ve Got to Hide Your Love Away\u201d and \u201cHelp!\u201d\u00a0George Harrison <\/strong>even\u00a0<\/strong>played it on\u00a0\u201cNorwegian Wood.”\u00a0And Beatles member\u00a0Ringo Starr<\/strong> recently got to relive that history when he was reunited with the instrument at his home.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe brought the guitar and he was so genuinely excited to see it and to play it and to take photographs with it,\u201d Nolan shares. \u201cHe loved holding it and just reminiscing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Another person who\u2019ll be reunited with the guitar is Lennon\u2019s son Julian Lennon<\/strong>, who was photographed in the studio with it in 1965. Julian is also selling items in the auction, and Nolan notes, \u201cOf course, Julian will come to see this before we gavel it to the new owner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While Nolan says The Beatles probably only spent about $100 on the guitar, its new owner will have to shell out a whole lot more, with bids already over $1 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt could go a lot higher,\u201d Nolan says. \u201cThere’s great interest in this. It’s so iconic. It’s very special.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
