On June 4, 1984,\u00a0Bruce Springsteen<\/strong> released what would become one of his most successful albums, <\/span>Born in the U.S.A.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The album, recorded with The E Street Band<\/strong>, spent seven weeks at #1 on the\u00a0<\/span>Billboard\u00a0<\/span><\/em>200 Album chart and produced seven top-10 singles: the <\/span>title track<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, “Dancing in the Dark,” “Cover Me,” “<\/span>Glory Days<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,” “I\u2019m On Fire,” “I\u2019m Goin\u2019 Down” and “My Hometown.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Because it dropped during\u00a0the era of MTV, Springsteen released his first music videos to promote the album, kicking things off with \u201c<\/span>Dancing in the Dark<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,\u201d directed by Brian De Palma<\/strong> and featuring a then-unknown Courteney<\/strong> Cox<\/strong>, well before her <\/span>Friends<\/span><\/em> fame.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Craig Marks<\/strong>, co-author of <\/span>I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Revolution<\/span><\/em>, tells ABC Audio Bruce\u00a0wasn’t exactly comfortable with\u00a0idea of the music video at first, but eventually allowed De Palma to film performances of the song in concert, planting Cox in the audience for Springsteen to pull onstage for a dance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The now-iconic video was a huge hit and introduced Springsteen to a whole new audience, with Marks noting the dance became \u201cthe signature music video moment\u201d for The Boss.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat it really did for Bruce Springsteen was took him from a singer\/songwriter whose fan base was mainly men at that point and introduced him to a whole new audience through MTV. Not just men, but of teens and of women,\u201d Marks shares.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

With <\/span>Born in the U.S.A.<\/span><\/em> Bruce became a global superstar, selling over 30 million copies of the album worldwide. The album was certified 17-times Platinum by the RIAA and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

Springsteen is celebrating the\u00a0milestone anniversary with a <\/span>special vinyl release<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of the album, dropping June 17.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
