While artists like Billy Joel<\/strong>, Michael Jackson<\/strong> and Tina Turner<\/strong> have had Broadway musicals written around their songs, it doesn\u2019t sound like you\u2019ll ever see one featuring the Bon Jovi<\/strong> catalog.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been asked to do that 100 times,\u201d Jon Bon Jovi<\/strong> tells <\/span>Variety<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0about the possibility of doing a jukebox musical.\u00a0\u201cEverybody wanted to write the story of Tommy and Gina [from ‘Livin\u2019 on a Prayer’], but I\u2019m going to guess that ABBA<\/strong> did it and <\/span>Jersey Boys<\/span><\/em> did it, and they did it really well many, many years ago. So I have turned down that opportunity time and again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It seems\u00a0Jon feels like the band\u2019s story has already been told on the stage.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI do recall all those years ago when I saw <\/span>Jersey Boys<\/span><\/em>, and I went, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s our story.\u2019 That\u2019s every band\u2019s story. So our story isn\u2019t that unique,\u201d he explains. \u201cAnd then I thought, OK, if you take the characters of Tommy and Gina and build two and a half hours around the catalog and their life, then it\u2019s <\/span>Mamma Mia<\/span><\/em>. So that\u2019s not unique.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead, Jon is working hard to get his voice back after having vocal surgery two years ago. And when he does, he hopes to get his band back onstage for a tour.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I know that none of us can achieve perfection, but I have to achieve excellence in order for me to do it on that level again, or I won\u2019t,” he says.\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t want to pretend to be something I was … I don\u2019t try to be that boy from 29 years ago, but I want to be the very best version of the 2024 version of me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
