The Who<\/strong>\u2019s rock opera <\/span>Quadrophenia<\/span><\/em> is coming to the stage again, this time as a ballet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quadrophenia: A Mod Ballet<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>will be<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>directed by Rob Ashford <\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>will feature the orchestral version of the album by Pete Townshend<\/strong>\u2019s wife,\u00a0Rachel Fuller<\/strong>, recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong>. It will feature a large cast of dancers, with choreography by Paul Roberts<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quadrophenia <\/span><\/em>was released in 1973 and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>written entirely by Townshend; it was The Who\u2019s second full rock opera following 1969\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Tommy<\/span><\/em>. It featured such classic songs as “The Real Me,” “Love Reign O’er Me” and “5:15.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The story, set in Brighton, England, in 1965, follows a young working-class mod named Jimmy on a journey of self-discovery. The album’s title was inspired by Jimmy’s four-way “split personality,” with each member of the band representing a different facet of that personality.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like\u00a0<\/span>Tommy, Quadrophenia\u00a0<\/span><\/em>inspired a film, but unlike\u00a0<\/span>Tommy<\/span><\/em>, it was a drama, not a musical. Released in 1979 to critical acclaim and commercial success, it starred\u00a0Phil Daniels\u00a0<\/strong>as Jimmy, with\u00a0The Police<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0Sting\u00a0<\/strong>as Ace Face.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quadrophenia: A Mod Ballet<\/span><\/em> is set to tour the U.K., starting in Plymouth at the Theatre Royal Plymouth, where it will run from May 28 to June 1. It will open at London\u2019s <\/span>Sadler\u2019s Wells on June 24 and run through July 13.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n
