Sammy Hagar<\/strong> is the subject of a new A&E <\/span>Biography<\/span><\/em>\u00a0special debuting June 30, and he\u2019s giving fans a sneak peek of what to expect.<\/span><\/p>\n

The former Van Halen<\/strong> frontman shared a preview of the episode <\/span>on Instagram<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and in the clip he discusses where the idea came from to write his hit song \u201cI Can\u2019t Drive 55.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I wrote the song I Can’t Drive 55, I had 34 speeding tickets and my license taken away three times and was paying $135,000 a year for insurance – and that was in 1984!\u201d Hagar writes in the caption of the post. \u201cSince I wrote that song and made that video I have gotten only two speeding tickets! It\u2019s the gift that keeps on giving.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the preview, Hagar talks about being stopped at 2 a.m. on a deserted highway for driving 62 in a 55 mph\u00a0zone.\u00a0After being pulled over by the cop, he told his wife, \u201cMan, I can\u2019t drive 55, you know?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI swear it was like God struck me with lightning,\u201d\u00a0he shares.\u00a0\u201cI wrote the whole song like that night. And it was the biggest thing I\u2019ve ever done in my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

“I Can’t Drive 55” was the lead single off Hagar’s album VOA<\/em>\u00a0and was a top-40 hit for the rocker.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sammy Hagar\u2019s A&E <\/span>Biography<\/span><\/em>\u00a0special will air Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.<\/span><\/p>\n
