After becoming the subject of a Paramount+ documentary<\/strong><\/a> last year,\u00a0disgraced late ’80s\/early ’90s pop duo\u00a0Milli Vanilli <\/strong>has\u00a0inspired a biopic that arrives in theaters Aug. 9. A new <\/span>trailer<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for the film has just been released.<\/span><\/p>\n

Called <\/span>Girl You Know It’s True<\/span><\/em>, the movie details the story of\u00a0Robert \u201cRob\u201d Pilatus\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Fabrice \u201cFab\u201d Morvan<\/strong>, whose debut album was a huge smash, spun off a string of hit singles and even won them a Grammy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>It all came crashing down when it was revealed that the duo didn\u2019t sing a word on the album: They’d been recruited by music producer\u00a0Frank Farian\u00a0<\/strong>to be the face of his recording project and had been lip-synching the whole time. The Recording Academy subsequently revoked their Grammy.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to <\/span>People<\/strong><\/span><\/em>,<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0the biopic was made with the cooperation of many of those involved in the group’s story, including Morvan, who served as a consultant and co-producer, and Carmen Pilatus<\/strong>, Rob’s sister, who’s an associate producer. Rob died in 1998.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brad Howell<\/strong>, one of the singers who actually provided the vocals for the Milli Vanilli album, is an associate producer, while the other singer on the project, John Davis<\/strong>, is represented in the same role by his daughter Jasmin<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
