According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/whitney-houston-legacy-foundation-holds-third-annual-gala-to-celebrate-late-icon-historical-visit-to-south-africa-8678806\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>People<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation and Primary Wave will celebrate her 61st birthday at\u00a0their third annual Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation Gala, taking place on her actual birth date, Aug. 9. The\u00a0event will also commemorate the 30-year anniversary of Whitney&#8217;s three history-making performances in South Africa\u00a0following\u00a0<strong>Nelson Mandela<\/strong>&#8216;s presidential win.<\/p>\n<p>Whitney\u00a0took the stage at King Park Stadium in Durban on\u00a0Nov. 8, 1994, Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Nov. 12, 1994, and Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on\u00a0Nov. 19, 1994, becoming the\u00a0first major musician to visit and perform in the nation post-apartheid. Some of the proceeds benefitted local South African children\u2019s charities.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation Gala, hosted by Whitney&#8217;s sister-in-law <strong>Pat Houston<\/strong> and <strong>Kevin Frazier<\/strong> of <em>Entertainment Tonight<\/em>, will go down\u00a0at the St. Regis Hotel in Atlanta. Set to hit the stage are headliner <strong>Yolanda Adams<\/strong>,\u00a0Whitney&#8217;s brother\u00a0<strong>Gary Houston<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Gregory Sams<\/strong> and <strong>Denisia Denisa<\/strong>, who recently won the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation\u2019s cover song competition.
