While most people buy an album for the music, some are drawn in by\u00a0an album\u2019s cover, and there\u00a0are certainly some covers that have stood out more than the rest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rolling Stone<\/span><\/em>\u00a0has decided it\u2019s time to highlight those standouts with\u00a0its list of the <\/span>100 best album covers of all time<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, with plenty of classics making the grade.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Joy Division<\/strong>\u2019s 1979 album,\u00a0<\/span>Unknown Pleasures,<\/span><\/em> tops the list, The Beatles<\/strong> are just behind them at #2 with\u00a0<\/span>Abbey Road.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0The mag calls the cover \u201cthe ultimate Beatles portrait: a sunny day in London, a crosswalk, the world\u2019s four most confident young men walking in line.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Abbey Road<\/span><\/em> is one of three Beatles covers to make the list, with <\/span>Sgt. Peppers\u2019 Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/span><\/em> at #14 and <\/span>The White Album<\/span><\/em> at #23.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other iconic covers making the top 10 include Pink Floyd<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>The Dark Side of the Moon<\/span><\/em> at #4,\u00a0Patti Smith<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Horses<\/span><\/em> at #6, The Clash<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>London Calling<\/span><\/em> at #8, Cyndi Lauper<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>She\u2019s So Unusual<\/span><\/em> at #9 and Nirvana<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Nevermind<\/span><\/em> at #10.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also on the list are\u00a0<\/span>The Velvet Underground & Nico<\/span><\/em>, Carole King<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Tapestry<\/span><\/em>, The Who<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Who\u2019s Next<\/span><\/em>, Fleetwood Mac<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Rumours<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and The Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u2019 <\/span>Sticky Fingers<\/span><\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

So, if these are some of the best, what are the worst? <\/span>Rolling Stone<\/span><\/em> has some opinions on that, too. Landing on top of the\u00a0<\/span>50 Worst Album Covers of All Time<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0list is Limp Bizkit<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Chocolate Starfish and the\u00a0Hot Dog Flavored Water,<\/span><\/em>\u00a0with Roger Daltrey<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Ride a Rock Horse,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>with a picture of\u00a0Daltrey as a centaur<\/span>,<\/span><\/em>\u00a0in at #2.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other\u00a0bad covers include Crosby, Stills & Nash<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Live It Up<\/span><\/em>, Three Dog Night<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Hard Labor<\/span><\/em>, Van Halen<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Balance<\/span><\/em>, Bon Jovi<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>Slippery When Wet<\/span><\/em> and Billy Joel<\/strong>\u2019s <\/span>River of Dreams, <\/span><\/em>with The Beatles also recognized for\u00a0<\/span>Revolver<\/span><\/em>\u00a0at #37.<\/span><\/p>\n
