On This Day, July 22, 1977\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Elvis Costello<\/strong> launched his music career with the U.K. release of his debut album, <\/span>My Aim Is True<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album, produced by Nick Lowe<\/strong>, featured Costello backed by the San Francisco country rock band Clover<\/strong>, although contractual issues resulted in their name being left off the album.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the album did not contain any chart-topping singles, at least two tracks went on to be Costello classics, \u201cAlison\u201d and \u201c(These Angels Want To Wear) My Red Shoes.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After the release, Costello was nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy, although he lost to the R&B group A Taste of Honey<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Costello is currently on tour with Daryl Hall<\/strong>. Their tour hits Gilford, New Hampshire, on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n
