A wax figure of the late Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor<\/strong> has been pulled from Dublin\u2019s National Wax Museum following uproar from the public, it was revealed on <\/span>RT\u00c9 Radio\u2019s Liveline<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The figure <\/span>was unveiled<\/strong><\/span><\/a> Thursday, the day before the one-year anniversary of Sin\u00e9ad\u2019s death, and drew tons of backlash on social media. Sinead\u2019s brother John O\u2019Connor<\/strong>\u00a0also voiced his displeasure.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw it online yesterday I was shocked. I thought it looked something between a mannequin and something out of the <\/span>Thunderbirds<\/span><\/em>,\u201d O\u2019Connor said on Liveline. \u201cI thought Sin\u00e9ad would have been very fond of looking well, and she certainly did, and if it was supposed to be a representation of her in her early 20s when she did ‘Nothing Compares 2 U,’ it just looked nothing like her. I thought it was hideous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added, \u201cA friend of mine said to me last night that he\u2019d seen better in Shaws [department store], in the window.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

John\u00a0also suggested a statue of Sin\u00e9ad in Dublin would be a better way to honor her.<\/span><\/p>\n

The museum has since decided to remove the statue, with museum director Paddy Dunning<\/strong> apologizing to the family. He also blamed the blunder on the statue\u2019s sculptor,\u00a0PJ Joseph Hegarty<\/strong>, noting he delivered it the night before the unveiling.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I had a look at the statue, I walked in to launch it, and when I saw it, I too didn\u2019t get that feeling that I normally get from PJ\u2019s fantastic work,\u201d he said. \u201cMy heart sunk a bit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He later noted, \u201cI had to take the decision to cancel the statue and we\u2019ll go again and we\u2019ll remodel and we have to do better on this occasion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
