On This Day, Aug. 14, 1971\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

English rockers\u00a0The Who\u00a0<\/strong>released their iconic album\u00a0<\/span>Who\u2019s Next<\/span><\/em>, featuring such future Who classics as \u201cBaba O\u2019Riley,\u201d \u201cWon\u2019t Get Fooled Again,\u201d and \u201cBehind Blue Eyes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The album was originally conceived as another rock opera,\u00a0<\/span>Lifehouse<\/span><\/em>, following their 1969 hit\u00a0<\/span>Tommy<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0Pete Townshend\u00a0<\/strong>eventually scrapped the whole project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who\u2019s Next\u00a0<\/span><\/em>was a critics darling, and consistently lands on lists of the greatest albums of all time. The album was the band’s only #1 in the U.K.; it hit #4 on the\u00a0<\/span>Billboard\u00a0<\/span><\/em>200 Album chart and has been certified triple Platinum by the RIAA.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last year The Who revisited <\/span>Who’s Next\/Lifehouse <\/span><\/em>with a new 10-CD\/Blu-ray set that featured 155 tracks, with 89 songs that had never been released and 57 fresh remixes. It included <\/span>Lifehouse\u00a0<\/span><\/em>demos, various session recordings and two complete concerts from 1971: one recorded at London\u2019s Young Vic theater and one recorded at San Francisco\u2019s Civic Auditorium<\/span>.<\/p>\n
