{"id":30159,"date":"2024-08-16T21:03:01","date_gmt":"2024-08-16T21:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/missouri-woman-arrested-in-alleged-scheme-to-defraud-elvis-presleys-family-through-graceland-sale\/"},"modified":"2024-08-16T21:03:01","modified_gmt":"2024-08-16T21:03:01","slug":"missouri-woman-arrested-in-alleged-scheme-to-defraud-elvis-presleys-family-through-graceland-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/missouri-woman-arrested-in-alleged-scheme-to-defraud-elvis-presleys-family-through-graceland-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri woman arrested in alleged scheme to defraud Elvis Presley&#8217;s family through Graceland sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-08-16\/Getty_Graceland_52224.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Alison Wright\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A Missouri woman was arrested Friday morning in connection with an alleged scheme to defraud <strong>Elvis Presley<\/strong>&#8216;s family out of millions of dollars and the ownership of Graceland, the Justice Department announced.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Lisa Findley<\/strong> is alleged to have orchestrated the scheme to conduct the sale of Graceland by falsely claiming that prior to her death, Elvis&#8217; daughter, <strong>Lisa Marie Presley<\/strong>, had pledged the famous estate as collateral for a loan she hadn&#8217;t repaid, prosecutors said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;As part of the brazen scheme, we allege that the defendant created numerous false documents and sought to extort a settlement from the Presley family,&#8221; the head of DOJ&#8217;s criminal division, <strong>Nicole Argentieri<\/strong>, said in a statement announcing the arrest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Findley, 53, of Kimberling City, Missouri, was charged with mail fraud and aggravated identity theft, the DOJ said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The criminal complaint, which was unsealed Friday, outlined the alleged scheme, which prosecutors said involved a fake private lender, forged documents and signatures and a fraudulent foreclosure notice for the Graceland estate in Memphis in an attempt to get millions from the Presley family.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Findley allegedly used several aliases \u2014 including Lisa Holden, Lisa Howell, Gregory Naussany, Kurt Naussany, Lisa Jeanine Sullins and Carolyn Williams \u2014 as part of the scheme, according to prosecutors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Her arrest comes 47 years to the day after\u00a0Elvis died at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If convicted, Findley faces a mandatory minimum of two years in prison for aggravated identity theft and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for mail fraud, the DOJ said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
