{"id":30219,"date":"2024-08-26T18:01:48","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T18:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/isaac-hayes-estate-granted-emergency-hearing-to-stop-donald-trump-from-using-hold-on-im-coming\/"},"modified":"2024-08-26T18:01:48","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T18:01:48","slug":"isaac-hayes-estate-granted-emergency-hearing-to-stop-donald-trump-from-using-hold-on-im-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lascrucestoday.com\/101gold\/isaac-hayes-estate-granted-emergency-hearing-to-stop-donald-trump-from-using-hold-on-im-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"Isaac Hayes estate granted emergency hearing to stop Donald Trump from using &#8220;Hold On (I\u2019m Coming)\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/syndication.abcaudio.com\/files\/2024-08-26\/Getty_IsaacHayes_081225.jpg\" alt><figcaption>Tim Mosenfelder\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The estate of <strong>Isaac Hayes<\/strong> will have\u00a0its day in court in its battle with <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> over the use of the classic tune \u201cHold On (I\u2019m Coming),\u201d which Hayes co-wrote with\u00a0<strong>David Porter<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>Sam &amp; Dave<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Hayes estate previously sent a letter to the Trump campaign demanding they stop using the tune at rallies, and\u00a0threatened a $3 million lawsuit to cover licensing fees for the times the song has already been used without permission between 2022 and 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hayes\u2019 son <strong>Isaac Hayes III<\/strong> has\u00a0revealed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C_F94vZRqzj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>on Instagram<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0that they did indeed file a lawsuit against Trump and a court has granted an emergency hearing set for Sept. 3 to \u201csecure injunctive relief\u201d in the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The lawyer for the Hayes estate, <strong>James Walker Jr.<\/strong>, noted that he\u2019s \u201ctrying to get their hearing live streamed but it will most likely be a public hearing with no tv,\u201d adding, \u201cEither way, appreciate you all for standing with our client\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1 s2\">@isaachayes3<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0and fighting for Black artists and the preservation of their legacy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He also insisted the family didn\u2019t file the lawsuit for money, noting it\u2019s \u201cabout protecting your rights and your family\u2019s legacy and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1 s2\">@isaachayes3<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1 s2\">@heatherhayes<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0have done that here.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2024, ABC Audio.
