Earlier this year, Eminem<\/strong> sampled Steve Miller Band<\/strong>\u2019s ’80s classic \u201cAbracadabra\u201d for his\u00a0track “Houdini,” and Miller says he\u2019s amazed at how fast the song\u00a0became a huge hit.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with the\u00a0<\/span>San Diego Union-Tribune<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, Miller says the release of the tune gave him \u201ca lesson about what social media has done to the record business.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I put out ‘Abracadabra’ in 1982, it became the #1 record in the world and that took about 12 months,\u201d he says. \u201cWith Eminem, two days after we signed our agreement, he released ‘Houdini’ at 12:01 a.m. on a Friday. Within 30 minutes, 60,000 people had watched the video on YouTube. By 10 a.m. it was 3 million. Nearly 50 million people streamed it, worldwide, in just the first week.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cI\u2019d never seen anything like that. It was crazy, just instantly. So, that was a real lesson.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Miller\u00a0describes\u00a0Em as \u201cvery cool\u201d and\u00a0says of the collab,\u00a0\u201cIt feels good that a whole other group of people are listening to my music (through Eminem) and digging it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Miller is currently the special guest on the Journey\/Def Leppard<\/strong> Summer Stadium tour. The tour hits San Francisco on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n
