While there will always be debate over who’s the greatest guitarist of all time, <\/span>Billboard<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0has decided to instead look at their instruments.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication has just come out with\u00a0its list of the 100 most iconic guitars of all time. It was decided on by a panel of journalists,\u00a0experts and guitarists across all musical genres, with fans getting to submit suggestions. Among the well-known guitarists\u00a0who helped decide the list are\u00a0ZZ Top<\/strong>\u2019s Billy F. Gibbons<\/strong>, Cheap Trick<\/strong>\u2019s Rick Nielsen<\/strong>, Aerosmith<\/strong>\u2019s Joe Perry<\/strong>, Joe Satriani<\/strong>, Metallica<\/strong>\u2019s Kirk Hammett<\/strong>, Jack White\u00a0<\/strong>and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, which famous axe was dubbed the most iconic? The #1 spot goes to Jimi Hendrix<\/strong>\u2019s 1965 Fender Stratocaster \u201cMonterey,\u201d which he infamously set on fire at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.<\/span><\/p>\n

Landing at #2 is Willie Nelson<\/strong>\u2019s 1969 Martin N-20 \u201cTrigger,\u201d followed by Eddie Van Halen<\/strong>\u2019s legendary homemade \u201cFrankenstein\u201d guitar, known for its red, black and white design, at #3.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding out the top five\u00a0are B.B. King<\/strong>\u2019s signature \u201cLucille,” which was a variety of Gibson guitars, and Chuck Berry<\/strong>\u2019s 1955 Gibson ES-350T.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of the other guitars making the list include: Angus Young<\/strong> of AC\/DC<\/strong>\u2019s Gibson SG at #6;\u00a0David Gilmour<\/strong>\u2019s 1969 Fender Stratocaster \u201cThe Black Strat\u201d at #7;\u00a0Jeff Beck<\/strong>\u2019s 1954 Les Paul,\u00a0known as \u201cOxblood,\u201d at #12; and Queen<\/strong> guitarist Brian May<\/strong>\u2019s The Red Special, which he and his father constructed themselves, at #14.<\/span><\/p>\n
