Pink Floyd<\/strong>‘s David Gilmour<\/strong> is crediting his wife,\u00a0Polly Samson<\/strong>, for helping him clean up his act.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with <\/span>The Independent<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>,<\/span><\/em> Gilmour reveals that it was an ultimatum from Samson that prompted him to give up his hard-partying lifestyle in the ’80s.<\/span><\/p>\n

“There was a time when I was letting things go, drinking too much, too much cocaine, all those sorts of things,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd in my life, that stopped when we [Polly and I] started, pretty much dead on at that time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilmour said that during the early\u00a0’80s he was having trouble dealing with \u201cmy pop group, my relationships and all those sorts of things,” noting, \u201cI hit a really torturous time; I didn’t really notice if I was out of control, but I probably was.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Turning to his wife of 30 years, he said, “I won’t call you a gift, Polly, but something came along into my life that was real, and she wouldn’t stand for it [drugs]. I just needed a little kick, really, in order to put it behind me.”<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t do otherwise,\u201d Samson added. \u201cI was a single mother. It was, for me, non-negotiable, and I made that clear.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked if his wife was his savior, Gilmour relied, \u201cY<\/span>es, exactly that, and I haven\u2019t been near any of those things for over 30 years.\u00a0<\/span>There aren\u2019t many women who would have the strength that Polly had to deal with it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Polly then noted, \u201cWe saved each other\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gilmour\u2019s new solo album, <\/span>Luck and Strange<\/span><\/em>, which features songs he co-wrote with Samson, comes out Friday.
