The lawyer for Prince<\/strong>‘s estate\u00a0is responding to a report that a new documentary about the singer includes accusations by ex-girlfriends that he was abusive.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>New York Times Magazine<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0ran a story about the documentary, which was directed by <\/span>O.J. Made in America\u00a0<\/span><\/em>director\u00a0Ezra Edelman <\/strong>for Netflix, claiming\u00a0to have seen the film.<\/span><\/p>\n

Writer Sasha Weiss<\/strong>\u00a0says it includes interviews with several ex-girlfriends who claim\u00a0Prince was physically and emotionally abusive. There are also interviews\u00a0revealing\u00a0Prince\u2019s alleged controlling behavior, along with claims he was abused as a child.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier reports\u00a0suggested Prince\u2019s estate was holding up the release of the\u00a0doc because they had issues with content they deemed inaccurate. Now Prince\u2019s longtime lawyer, L. Londell McMillan<\/strong>, who the <\/span>Times<\/span><\/em> article claims strongly opposes the doc, has spoken out.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a <\/span>post on X<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, McMillan wrote, \u201cLet me ask YOU, if you found out that someone didn\u2019t like you and\/or hated how others loved you, would you trust them and let them make a major film story on your life, then you see the rough cuts mix facts with falsehood, speculation, omissions with opinions? GTHOH,” an abbreviation for “get the hell out of here.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in a statement to <\/span>The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/a>, Primary Wave Music and Prince Legacy, which own stakes in the singer\u2019s assets, say they’re trying to resolve any issues in order to get the documentary out.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThose with the responsibility of carrying out Prince\u2019s wishes shall honor his creativity and genius,\u201d it reads. \u201cWe are working to resolve matters concerning the documentary so that his story may be told in a way that is factually correct and does not mischaracterize or sensationalize his life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

They add, \u201cWe look forward to continuing to share Prince\u2019s gifts and celebrate his profound and lasting impact on the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
