On This Day, Sept. 25, 2017 …<\/span><\/p>\n

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers\u00a0<\/strong>headlined The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles for what would turn out to be their final concert ever, as Petty would die less than two weeks later.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the show, Petty and the band treated fans to such classic tunes as \u201cI Won\u2019t Back Down,\u201d \u201cFree Fallin\u2019,\u201d \u201cBreakdown\u201d and “Learning to Fly,\u201d wrapping the night with \u201cYou Wreck Me\u201d and \u201cAmerican Girl.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Petty was found unconscious at his home on Oct. 2 and died at UCLA Medical Center, although there were initially premature reports of his passing. The coroner report revealed that drugs played a role in his death.<\/span><\/p>\n

Petty’s musical\u00a0legacy\u00a0still lives on, and it will be\u00a0remembered with a new\u00a0deluxe edition of\u00a0<\/strong>his\u00a0<\/strong>1982 album,\u00a0<\/span>Long After Dark. <\/span><\/em>It will be released\u00a0Oct. 18.<\/span><\/p>\n
